The mighty Columbia River originates in the Canadian Rockies, flows south through Washington State and then heads west to the Pacific Ocean. The river separates the state of Washington from the State of Oregon for much of the distance. Portland OR is located on the southern shore of the Columbia. The city of Vancouver Washington is situated across the Columbia River from Portland.
